Ferhan Hamid has been a licensed attorney for over 29 years. In that time, he has handled a multitude of legal issues from complex contracts to litigation and collections. Mr. Hamid’s practice has focused on representing corporations in a myriad of legal issues. . His recent transactions have included: successfully representing a government contracting company in contract dispute with a large federal government agency; representing the CEO of an IT consulting firm in a dispute with a former partner and negotiating a consulting agreement with a large customer; representing a non-profit corporation in a multinational banking transaction; representing the buyer in the acquisition of a small business; and representing a large municipality in a securities transaction. Most recently, Mr. Hamid has been hired by a major corporation for debt collection. Previously, Mr. Hamid was a partner in a national law firm focusing on government affairs and public finance. In this capacity he represented clients such as the City of Philadelphia, Citibank, and others. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of a NASDAQ listed investment banking firm. Mr. Hamid previously spent 13 years in government, finishing his career as Managing Deputy Comptroller for the City of Chicago where he managed a $400M budget and administered a self-insured healthcare plan covering over 130,000 individuals. He was also the city official with responsibility for $2 billion-plus deferred compensation retirement plan and chaired the Joint Labor-Management Committee on Health. Previously, Mr. Hamid served as Deputy Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller for the City of Chicago and as Counsel for the Chicago Park District, where he negotiated and drafted dozens of landmark agreements and was involved with hundreds of millions of dollars of bond issuances. He started his career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois focused on collections, bankruptcy, and state and local tax litigation. Mr. Hamid has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Lottery, a $5.3 billion per year enterprise, since 2018. He has unanimously been elected as Chairman by his colleagues on the Board for five consecutive years. He was first appointed to the Board in 2015 by Governor Terry McAuliffe and then re-appointed to a 5-year term in 2017 and again in 2022. Mr. Hamid received his B.A. with Honors from the University of Illinois, Urbana and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law.
